George III or Regency Mahogany Commode with Original Handles & Feet
A modestly-proportioned but fine late 18thC or early 19thC mahogany piece in good condition and with the original brass swan-neck handles and bracket feet, the top beautifully grained and overlaid with the character marks of age, with bold ogee moulding to the front & sides, hinged at the rear for opening and also with a hinged joint to the upper front panel, which is in the form of two false drawer fronts, cock-beaded and with superb brass swan-neck drop-handles and false keyhole to the centre, over two more matching but fixed drawer fronts, thus giving the appearance of a graduated chest, over a moulded plinth and bracket feet at each corner, the fitted interior complete with an armchair seat and later, removable ceramic liner, this classic Georgian commode will impress in the most elegant of period-furnished reception rooms or entrance halls and is sure to attract the admiring & curious attention of your guests.
Width 61cm x Depth 44.5cm (24" x 17.5") & Height 68.5cm (27")
This is a genuine antique piece from the period 1760-1820, so you may expect the mature character & patina that only develops over a considerable time, including multiple age-related marks to the top and other less than serious wear & tear commensurate with age but, otherwise, it's in good, clean & sound condition, ready to take its place in your home.
