3-Piece Continental Art Deco Bergere Lounge Suite from c1920s

3-Piece Continental Art Deco Bergere Lounge Suite from c1920s

An exceptional & stylish 3-piece lounge suite of 3-seater sofa & 2 armchairs, probably from the 1920s, possibly continental and with more than a touch of the art deco about it, generally in very good condition with just a few but mainly minor issues, with lyre-shaped, possibly mahogany, show-frames and arched backs, richly-carved throughout with over-lapping leaf spears and an abstract motif of birds in flight, the rounded arms terminating in incised scrolls, the frame bearing on substantial globe feet, incised with a diamond lattice in the case of the front feet but plain to the rear, the arms & backs enclosed in a double skin of cane, the seats sprung and upholstered with loose cushions and with matching loose cushions to the backs, covered in a gold & silver silken fabric with a large floral motif, this magnificent suite is both comfortable and immensely stylish and will impress even in the grandest of homes, demanding and undoubtedly attracting the admiring attention of all your guests.

Sofa Width 182.5cm x Depth 86.5cm (72" x 34"), Height to Centre of Back 76.5cm plus Cushions (30") & Seat Height 45.5cm (18")
Armchair Width 82.5cm x Depth 85.5cm (32.5" x 33.75"), Height to Centre of Back 71cm plus Cushion (28") & Seat Height 45.5cm (18")

This is a period suite from around the 1920s, so you may expect some wear & tear commensurate with age and normal use, including those specific issues noted below but it was re-covered with a top quality silken fabric within the last 10 years and the caning to the arms was also renewed*, so it's in very good, clean & sound condition and ready to use in your home.

*The double-skin caning of the backs is original and, consequently, of a darker colour than the newer caning to the arms.

The sofa has minor damage to the original caning on the inner skin at the LHS of the back but this is hidden by the loose upright cushion. There is a neat & secure repair to a vertical split in the terminating scroll at the front of the arm on the RHS. There is also a white blemish on the loose seat cushion.

One chair has an ugly but secure repair to a vertical split in the terminating scroll at the front of the arm on the LHS and there is a secure gap at the junction of this arm with the chair back. There is also damage to the original cane inner skin at the lower RHS but it too is hidden by the loose upright cushion.

Both chairs have one lateral crack in the frame where the arched back meets the upright but, although there is some movement, it's not significant and does not affect the function in any way.
