A Pair of Late Victorian Rosewood & Marquetry Inlaid Side Chairs with Over-Sprung Seats

A delightful top quality pair of rosewood chairs from around 1880-1900 in good condition, with fine marquetry inlay throughout and scarcely noticeable losses to the string inlay on the legs only, with delicate lyre-shaped backs, the splat and top inlaid with urns, swags & scrolls, the slender uprights string inlaid and scrolled, with a little fretwork panel also to the top, the seats over-sprung and covered in a burgundy red damask fabric with floral & scrolled medallions and braided trim, on slender string inlaid sabre front legs and shaped rear that are contiguous with the backs, these lovely salon chairs will charm in the most elegantly furnished of reception rooms, fully-deserving of the admiring attention that they will surely attract.

Maximum Width at Seat 41cm x Maximum Depth 48cm (16.25" x 19"), Height at Centre of Back 83cm (32.75") & Height at Seat 47.5cm (18.75")

These chairs date from around the end of the 19thC, so you may expect the mature character & patina of age, together with wear & tear commensurate with normal use, including some losses to the string inlay at the legs only; one front leg has been chewed, presumably by a cat and the seat covering is worn at the front corner of one chair but, in all other respects, they're in good, clean & sound condition and are ready to use in your home.

Alternatively, you are welcome to collect the item yourself.
