An exceptional late Victorian mahogany piece in very good condition, with finely-grained top and projecting moulded edges, bearing the signs of a previous superstructure that has been removed, possibly for upper drawers and a mirror for a dressing table, over panelled sides with bevelled frames and a kneehole with frieze drawer over, flanked by banks of three graduated drawers, fitted with aesthetic style brass drop-handles, set in fluted framework on spade feet and with a carved floral apron over the kneehole, inscribed by the maker to the rear '1898 XII AS', this stylish pedestal desk will impress in the most elegantly-appointed of homes, whether period-furnished or more contemporary in taste, fully-deserving of the admiring attention it will undoubtedly attract.
