Late Georgian or Regency Period Mahogany Commode Cabinet

Late Georgian or Regency Period Mahogany Commode Cabinet

A fine period mahogany piece from around 1810-30 and in very good condition, altered in the 20thC to accommodate hi-fi and DVD players but retaining its original arms and a later ceramic lidded pan, with a beautifully figured & line-inlaid panelled top, having rounded front corners, hinged at the rear to reveal shaped arms & back-rest over a 23cm deep upper compartment with removable base, below which is a lower compartment with a circular housing for its ceramic liner, the front of 4 short over 2 long faux drawer fronts, cock-beaded and with large decorative circular brass drop-handles & plates, together with oval escutcheons for false keyholes, the upper short drawer fronts hinged at each side and opening for access to the front of the upper compartment, the lower, full-width drawer fronts in a single fixed panel, the cabinet sides with recessed brass drop-handles in rectangular plates, all on a moulded plinth and bracket feet to all four corners, this grand Georgian commode has been used in more recent times as a TV table with storage for associated equipment and DVDs but will impress in the most elegantly-appointed of homes, to whatever purpose you put it and is sure to attract the curiosity and admiration of your guests.

O/All Width of Top 66.75cm x O/All Depth 49.75cm (26.25" x 19.5")
Height 72.5cm (28.5")

This is a late Georgian or Regency piece, so you may expect the mature character & patina of considerable age but, now professionally & sympathetically restored and in very good, clean & sound condition and ready to be used in your home.

NB: There are cable holes in the rear panel and ventilation holes in the base; there is also old woodworm in the underside but it is no longer active. As a precaution, I always treat signs of worm when I acquire such pieces and I will treat it once again before dispatch, in order that you may be entirely reassured.
