$480.19

Early 20thC Mahogany & Inlaid Gramophone Cabinet from Wm. Whiteley of London

An attractive period piece dating from around 1896-1926, complete with working* gramophone and bearing the name of a renowned London department store, having a figured circular hinged top secured on a metal stay, line inlaid and with signs of previous repairs & restoration, opening to reveal a gramophone turntable & playing arm, over a frieze with decorative inlay of urns & swags, over a small 2-door compartment with brass drop-handles in the form of suspended fish, the doors secured on ball catches, all on tapering & out-swept square legs with line inlay, connected by bowed cross-stretchers supporting a small circular under tier, this lovely cabinet will charm in any elegant home and, whether for home entertainment or purely for show, it's an ideal talking point that is sure to attract the admiring attention of your returning guests.

*According to the previous owner, it's in working order and comes with a selection of 78rpm records, including The Ink Spots, Victor Sylvester, Johnny Ray, Frankie Laine, Doris Day & Yehudi Menuhin but I haven't attempted to play any of these, so I cannot confirm that's the case.

Dia. of Top 49.5cm (19.5") & O/All Height with Lid Closed 81.5cm (32")

This is a period piece from early in the 20thC so you may expect some wear & tear and cosmetic blemishes commensurate with age and normal use but, barring some old repairs to the veneer on the top and other minor deterioration in the same area, it's in good, clean & sound condition, ready to take its place in your home.
